Beautiful Eyes and Ears
Today's guest blogger is Sarah from VA. She encourages us to really think about what we see and hear. Everyone has different opinions on how far is too far when it comes to media exposure. What do YOU think? Here's Sarah's story:A few years ago, God really touched my life and showed me how to live with beautiful eyes. I read a devotional one night about being careful what you watch; what you let your eyes see. God convicted my heart and ever since that reading, I am more aware of what I gaze upon. Thankfully this has stuck with me over the years and it's a concept that I think about daily. I had several movies at home in my collection that I knew I need to get rid of, mainly ones that were rated R and PG-13. Ones with violence, killing, nudity, and lust. I felt guilty for allowing myself to own and watch movies with that sort of content. I got rid of about 50% of my movie collection just a few days after that reading. It felt so good to rid my life of those inappropriate movies.
It was also a few years ago that I threw away a lot of my music albums. Yes, threw them away.
My music collection at the time consisted of lots of music with cursing and drug related content and WOW cd's.
Yes, talk about from one end of the spectrum to the other. Here I was a Christian listening to music like this. It sickens my stomach to reflect back on that time in my life but I praise God who changed my heart and allowed me to see that I was sinning against him. Just like with my eyes, I am now aware of the kinds of sounds my ears should be hearing. Music, television, language.... everything. I want my ears to hear encouraging words and inspiring lyrics.
This is how I live beautifully: with my eyes and ears.

That was beautiful, Sarah :-)
this reminds me of a sunday school song from my childhood: "oh, be careful little eyes what you see(little ears what you hear, little feet where you go) - there's a father up above, who is looking down in love, so be careful little eyes what you see." I think there's a little missing bit to this song and its summed up in this quote: "People don't read their Bible, they read their Christians". . so true.
Thank you, lovely Sarah.
Thanks Gina and Kat! Yes Kat, those words are in a Casting Crowns song that I hear on the radio every now and then. Gets me every time!
